Should I purchase a Namesake Box before or after my wedding?

You can purchase a Namesake box at any point in your engagement or marriage! The information we gather to create your name change kit is the same, regardless if you purchase before or after your wedding. Due to these challenging times, we’re also happy to send you new digital forms free of charge should your wedding date change.

What documents do you fill out for me?

We provide step-by-step instructions for all the important Canadian name change documents, but we also specifically fill in sections on the following forms to save you time:

  • Provincial Health Card Change of Information Form

  • Canadian Adult General Passport Application

  • Elections Canada Update Request Form

Note: You will still need to review the forms and fill in a few sections yourself, such as your health card number, so as to respect your personal information.

How long will it take to change my name?

On average, it takes about 4-8 weeks to receive every piece of new ID and complete all the steps. But with the help of our Namesake Box, we save on average 10+ hours of research and tracking down forms, making the name changing process easy and fun!

What if I find an error on my forms or have changed my information since ordering?

Need revised forms? No problem! Email us at hello@thenamesakebox.com and we’ll get new forms sent to your inbox ASAP, free of charge! If your wedding date has changed due to COVID, we can absolutely send you new forms to reflect your new wedding date.

Do you need my personal information like my Social Insurance Number or Driver’s License Number?

No. We DO NOT collect any sensitive personal information such as your Social Security number, passport number, driver's license number, financial account numbers, etc. We ask you to personally fill out this information on the forms we ship to you, before you submit your forms/applications.

I’ve already started my name change. Can I still use Namesake?

Absolutely. If you find the process stressful, not to worry, you’re not alone! Simply skip the sections you’ve already completed. If you have any questions, please email us at hello@thenamesakebox.com and we'll be happy to help you on your name changing journey.

Can I give the Namesake Box as a gift to a friend?

Absolutely! You can purchase a box for a friend and either fill in all the details if you happen to know them, or send her the link sent to your inbox after purchase in order for her to fill out her personal information. We are also working on a gift card option, so stay tuned!
